We decided to head to the swap meet at the Aloha Stadium because it was a Saturday morning and we wanted to see if we could get some of our souvenir shopping done a little earlier on this trip. We were also planning to go for a hike and then going to Kailua Beach Park to spend sometime at the beach before heading back to our resort to make dinner.
As we were driving to the stadium we kept seeing signs on the road talking about entrances that were closed. We thought all of this was because of the swap meet. Sadly is was because of a football game that was going to happen that afternoon so there was not going to be a swap meet that day. So, we headed to our hike to Maunawili falls a little earlier than planned. Little did we know that, that was actually a blessing in disguise because the hike took longer than we anticipated. It took us 5 hours round trip. It was a very fun and adventurous hike. At the beginning of the hike we were all excited and enjoying our time. Tanner slip an apple in half with his hands so Layla could eat her own half. Chance was swinging from vines.
We walked through the jungle and over a river and up a lot of stairs. We got to the waterfall with very muddy shoes and ready to get in the water and jump off the waterfall. I wasn't going to jump at first because of the warning signs at the beginning of the hike talking about some bacteria in the water. It took very little to talk me into jumping. I love doing adventurous things but being a mom it has stopped me from doing it as much as before. It was really fun to see Tanner jump off the waterfall and then climb to a high point and jump off. He was so brave and it was good that we did a long hike because he needed to make the hike worth the waterfall jumping. Aubrey and Chance jumped off the waterfall with ease. I think they really enjoyed that part of our Hawaii vacation.
As we were hiking back down we had a scary moment where Tanner decided to toss Layla to Chance over the river. It was terrifying. Chance decided to fly his drone for a little at the top of the hike while Tanner, Layla and I kept hiking down. As we were hiking down we ran into a guy that started to talk to us about BYU football since Tanner was wearing a BYU shirt. The man was from Denver but there on vacation like us. As we started back down the hill we mentioned how that is a big reason of why BYU has a football team is so we can talk about the church and gospel but in a more comfortable intro like with football.
We finally made it down, over the river and through the muddy jungle.
We headed to the beach in Kailua. It was a nice beach park. It had very soft and white sand. We really enjoyed watching the wind surfers and Layla loved playing in the ocean again.
The down side to the sand at this beach is that it stuck to Layla even after washing in the ocean and at the showers. She had sand all over her and she started to rub her eyes and got sand on her eye lids. It was not worth it when you have a toddler with sand like that. It was also easier to not like that sand when the sand at our resort was so nice. It was soft enough to play in but heavy enough that it came right of with water and wiping.
We headed back home after a little bit at the beach to make kabobs for dinner at the grills by the pool. We love to grill especially on vacation. Tanner is very good at grilling and enjoys doing it. It was also a meal I think everyone enjoyed.
Then we watched the rest of the BYU football game against UCLA and it was so close but we just lost at the very end if the game. After that long day it was finally time to go to bed so we straightened up and went to bed.
