The Nilsson's go to Washington Day#5

Day #5 

It was Sunday and we woke up and got ready to go to church. As we were getting ready we decided to take our time and go to the temple first and then to church. We drove to the Washington D.C. temple. It was a gorgeous drive there with everything green and little bits of fall colors in the trees. We drove up to the visitor centers parking lot and got out and walked over to the temple. As we were walking passed the visitors center there was music playing. It was the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. It was such a peaceful moment. The temple was having some construction work done so there were sections that were roped off but we were still able to walk around the whole temple and see how majestic it was. We learned in the visitor center that the temple is made out of marble. Tanner and I both have a new temple added to the top of our list of one of the most beautiful temples we have seen.
We went into the visitor center and it was like a play ground to me. There were so many different interactive things to do and see. We did have to hurry through it a little to make it to church. We went to the church that was just up the street from the temple. We listened to many of their members bare testimony of this true gospel and how it has blessed their lives and the lives of their family. Tanner commented to me how if you are on vacation and feeling just a little home sick all you need to do is go to sacrament meeting and that feeling goes away. This was exactly what I was thinking at the time he said that. After church, we headed to Gettysburg. We drove the almost 2 hour drive to Gettysburg. I really enjoy going on long drives with Tanner. We talk and share stories and get to know each other a little better.
We got to Gettysburg and went into the visitor center. That is where we found out that everything in there is very expensive such as the movie and the museum. We decided not to spend our money on those but to do a driving tour of Gettysburg and listen to an audio tour. We drove from spot to spot where it told us to stop and we got to listen to stories of what happened during that battle. This was not as interesting to me but Tanner would have taken the longer tour and learned more if he could have. It was such a beautiful day and the fields and hills were pretty. Of course as we were driving through Gettysburg Layla had a blow out and we had to pull over and change her diaper and outfit but we took the opportunity to take a picture of us and the beautiful landscape while we were out of the car.
At one point we did get a little lost on the audio tour and did a extra loop but we found out way back and finished the tour at the cemetery. After we ate at this little and dark tavern in the  Gettysburg. It was pretty good food and Layla was able to make friends with two of the waitresses. She was making them laugh and she was laughing back.
After dinner we made the drive back to our hotel and as we got out of the car there was an Asian bus driver talking on his blue tooth but he was very angry and yelling. I did not know what he was saying but I was pretty scared so I stood by Tanner as we got Layla out of the car and rushed inside away from him. At first I thought he was yelling at us for parking kind of in front of his bus but then I noticed that he had a blue tooth in his ear.
We went upstairs and went to bed. As I am thinking about this I will add that our door to our room would shake every time the door at the end of the hall would close so we stuck a pillow case in the door so it wouldn't shake every time. The night we got back from Gettysburg the smoke detector battery was low so it was beeping. The front desk people did not know how to change it so that whole night it beeped. With both of those little annoyances they offered to have us change rooms and were very accommodating. They even gave us extra pillows and bedding for Layla when they saw that we had a baby.  It was a nice place to stay.
