Canada Day 2

Today was our first real day in Canada. We were planning to wake up early so we could go to Saint John, Darlings Island, Hope Well Rocks, and then to Halifax. We ended up sleeping in and getting much needed sleep. We woke up and ate breakfast got ready and headed out around noon. The Pattison's were so great to let us stay at their home. Especially since they had family coming into town just a few days later. We started our day driving to Darlings Island, which was so pretty. They have covered bridges that are so scenic and reminds me of many of the older movies I love. We headed from there to Saint John. It was a very interesting place, it was foggy, fishman town that had its own unique smell. We just drove around there in Tanner's area and went and saw where his old apartment was. On the way you are suppose to be able to see these towers that say IRVING but it was so foggy the day we were there you couldnt see anything. I just had to trust Tanner was right in what he was saying.
We ended up eating lunch in Saint John and then headed up to Halifax. We drove for what seemed like not very long. There roads are much different to drive on because no matter where you are going you cannot see where you are going in the distance. It makes for trips in the car seem much shorter. We ended up getting to Halifax later than we planned but we took full advantage of it.
                                  

We went down to the pier and ate dinner there. They had fresh seafood there. We ate at a restaurant called Murphy's. It was good.

Then we decided to walk on the pier there were musicians from all of the place. This weekend was some kind of festival so there was a lot more going on in Halifax than normal. We decided at dinner to stay a bed and breakfast. We called and the lady said she would not be there but that her sister would come and let us in and take care of us. She was such a nice lady.

When we were finally done exploring the pier, it was time for us to track down where the Halifax temple is and go visit it even though it was late. So we drove across the bridge to Dartmouth. He basically got there took pictures and left. There were so many spider on the fence, I didnt want to get to close.
It was late and time to find our bed and breakfast.  We drove back around to Halifax and found it located right on the shore. It was just a road between us and the water. Many pictures to come.

We had a wonderful night in Halifax! 

OH CANADA!

Tanner and I left our hotel in New York City around 9 am. We decided the smart thing to do would be to rent a car so we did not have to haul our luggage around the subway and it would be way better than a taxi. I was not feeling good at all. I think it was all of the really gross food I ate during lunch in New York. I couldn't eat at all. So, I was feeling sick the whole time. We got in line at the airport and it was a whole line of Asians getting onto the flight to go to Toronto.I went to the bathroom before I got on the plane and I saw a lady with a full grown BEARD. It was weird and disgusting all at the same time.

Welcome to Air Canada! 

We got on the plane and I was feeling sick but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. Tanner and I started to watch  Hunger Games and watch it the whole flight. Then as we started to land. I was going to have to use that bag in the seat that no one wants to get out during a plane flight.... or ever. I got it out and closed my eyes and took deep breaths. I ended up not needing the bag but I kept it with me for a while. We got out and had to go through customs and I was shaking the whole time. I couldn't stop. Then..... our flight was delayed to get to Moncton by almost 2 hours. So I laid on the floor of the airport with a beach towel. It would be way gross if I just laid there without a blanket or something. We finally got on the plane. It was a Air Canada Express plane. It had propellers! I will just have to show you a picture. It was sweet, and loud.
We finally landed in Moncton late and Kelly Galbraith was there to welcome us and to take us to the Pattison's who we were going to be staying with for the first night in Canada. It was so fun to get to hear about all the people that Tanner knew on his mission and to hear about where they are now. Many of them are still around but many of them moved away or are not very active. He was surprised at how many people once she said the name he remembered them.  We drove for about an hour and a half and we finally got to Hampton, New Brunswick. It was gorgeous!!! There were little hills and green and the moon was huge. I felt so close to the sky and the moon.
We got to the Pattison's and it was just Lisa and her mom there. We talked to Lisa for about a half an hour and then it was time for bed. We got upstairs and I was so tired. I laid on the bed for a little bit and I saw a picture of a bird. I thought my dad would know what this bird is and then I decided to take a picture of it so that he could tell me what it was when we got home.

Then, I got ready for bed and we talked for like 5 minutes about what we are going to do the next day.  Then I was asleep. Tanner as always stayed up later than me to plan our day. It was a day of traveling but it was still wonderful.

New York City Day 3

This was our last full day in New York City. We would be leaving the next morning. We decided to go to all the museums that we could. We headed to the subway because we did not want to walk all the way to Central Park from our hotel. We woke up just a little bit late so we got a later start than normal. We started at the Metropolitan Museum. It was so big. I never thought we would get to all of it and of course we didn't. We did get to the exhibits we thought would be most interesting. I will just have to share the pictures with you. As we were walking through one of the Early American Exhibit. I was finding myself thinking of ways how I can add the design into my future home. It was funny. Then Tanner came up to me and said, " I wouldn't mind having something like that in our house one day." I told him that I was thinking that same thing.

We then walked through Central Park and man it started to rain. It was the only day we didn't have our rain jackets with us. Luckily, I stuck a umbrella inside Tanner's backpack. We walked over to a castle that was in the middle of Central Park. I ran and got a picture with it and then we briskly walked to the next museum which was the American Museum of Natural History.( I think that is what it is called.) We walked immediately to the  planetarium which was inside. We learned about starts while we walked the show with Whoopey Goldberg as our narrator. We ate lunch there in the cafeteria. Another not so great food choice. We were basically striking out on all of our lunch options. We had to hurry because we wanted to try and make it across town to get to the Air and Space Museum so that we could see the spaceship Intrepid. We hurried through the animals, sea creatures and human sections and basically ran to the museum and then we go there a half hour late so we were not able to go see the spaceship. That was one of the only things that I was sad we didn't get to see, that and The Plaza Hotel. 

We decided to take our time walking back to the hotel to get cleaned up for NEWSIES. Yes, that is right Tanner and I saw Newsies on Broadway. It was so good. The singing, the dancing, even the little change in the story was incredible. It was one of the shows Tanner will easily and quickly go see again. We loved how after all the bigger numbers such as King of New York and Seize the Day. The whole audience clapped for at least 2 to 3 minutes. The actors were loving it though. The vocals were great, and the dancers were amazing. I cant dance... at all but these boys could really dance.

After we didn't want our New York section of the trip end so we headed back to Time Square and then over to Rockefellar Plaza. We ended up going up to the "Top of the Rock". It was such a stunning view. It was probably better than the top of the Empire State Building. We stayed up there for over and hour just taking in the city skyline at night. Also, Tanner was trying to figure out what to say in his video for James. When they were closing we went down to walk around and walked by the flags, and the Lego store and show the quote from Mr. Rockefeller. It was late so we headed to the subway. They were going to clean it so they said we need to get in fast so we don't get wet. 

We got on the subway and headed back to the hotel. 

 

We had to wait down in the subway for awhile because it was so late. The trains did not run as frequently. It was way hot down there too. We finally got on and rode to our stop. We got off, and got a little turned around so instead of walking most of the way to our hotel underground we ended up walking in a circle almost above ground. Finally we made it back to our hotel for a good nights rest for Canada!
