San Clemente and Tijuana

For the week of Thanksgiving week we drove down to San Clemente and stayed in my sister in laws families condo.
Our trip started out on Monday night driving down to Las Vegas. We wanted the men to work on Monday so they were not missing even more work than they already had too. We left around 6 and drove to my parents and Grandma's house and then we headed down to Las Vegas. We made really good time and got their around 11 pm Las Vegas time. Alec got to ride with us this portion of the trip and it was fun to get to talk to him and find out what is going on in his life.
Layla did not sleep much of this drive at all. She maybe slept 30 minutes until we got to Las Vegas. She just wanted to watch 20 minutes of every movie on the i-pad multiple times. We stayed at the Excalibur hotel. It was funny because when we got into town Layla saw some of the big hotels and she called them temples. She just knows that big building with spires are temples. It was so funny. She loves getting to stay in hotels and go on vacations!
We checked in, slept, woke up, got ready, ate breakfast at McDonald's (which I haven't down for more than 8 years), and then started our drive again. This leg of the drive my Grandma Taylor rode with us.
She has so much insight about life and she remembers so many things. I hope to be like her when I grow up. We drove to Marietta California to visit my cousins that live there and see their home. They have lived there for almost two years and this was our first time there. We visited with them for a short time and then we decided before it gets dark to finish our drive to San Clemente. We decided to take the Ortega Highway. Oh man, it was a winedy road. It has so really pretty view though!

We made it to the condo and it is bigger than I thought. It has 4 kind of 5 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms and very large kitchen and living area! Seriously we are so blessed to have had the chance to stay there. Our family was able to fit comfortably. Even Alec who had to sleep on a inflatable mattress in the living room.
The kitchen though, I love my kitchen but a kitchen that big would be so fun to have everyday to cook in.
The other thing about this condo is it is right by the beach and it has a train track and sleeping it is not has fun to hear the horn but during the day Layla would hear the train horn and run outside to see it drive by. It was her favorite part of the condo and the mirrors on the ceiling in the living room.

After we got there we decided to go get dinner and do our Thanksgiving day shopping for food. We all had things we were going to buy that go with what we were assigned to make.
I was assigned rolls and pies. I did make the rolls with our a big mixer but a little hand mixer and then kneading by hand. I do think they turned out SO good. Then, we bought pies because I didn't want to make those and rolls. That night after we were finished with everything we watched Jurassic World. It was a pretty cool movie.

Wednesday we spent the day down in Tijuana Mexico doing to the temple open house, eating fish tacos ( SOOO yummy!) and visiting my brothers areas and meeting his investigators/ converts. It was scary driving around there but it was so fun to see that part of my brothers mission area.
As we were about to leave to go back across the boarder we accidentally got in the wrong line to go across. Basically we got stuck in the "express" lane so by the time we got up to the front they just let us through but we had to get a "secondary inspection". It seemed to us like they were just putting us in time out. No one came to talk to us no one walked around our car or did anything. Then after thirty minutes of sitting there they said we are free to go. It was pretty funny because we were trying to think of things they would ask us and how we would respond but nothing happened.
We made it home and ordered some Thai food and went to bed.

Thursday was Thanksgiving Day. We relaxed most of the day besides all the cooking. We made all the food for out Thanksgiving dinner and invited some friends who were down in San Diego to come eat dinner with us. I started the rolls to rise for the first time before our run. Tanner and I decided to take the chance while Layla had some babysitters to go for a run on the beach. It was so much fun. I loved being able to breath normal the whole run because of the low altitude.
Then, we got back and made rolls into their shapes and let them rise again. We just got to spend time as a family and eat great food and then after all the eating was done we sat down and watch Mocking Jay Part 1 together as a family. It was so a wonderful Thanksgiving experience.

Friday, we just lounged all day minus our run on the boardwalk until night when we went to Jacqui's parents house that they are remodeling. It is HUGE and it is in a gated community in a gated community right by the beach and it is going to be beautiful. Then we went to Del Mar street and went shopping even though half the stores were already closed. These kinds of days are my favorite while on vacation.

Saturday we made the drive all the way home. Luckily the BYU vs. Utah State game took up most of the time from California all the way to Las Vegas and then it was Christmas music and driving though the snow on the way back.
