I have wanted to document Adeline's birth story for awhile now but I haven't been able to get to it. I want to remember some of the small details of the day for the future.
We went in for my 38 week appointment on Tuesday December 27, 2016. I was 38 weeks 6 days. I would have been 39 weeks the next day. Our doctor had been discussing with us having the baby on this day for insurance. We didn't want to have to use to insurances during out time at the hospital. With Tanner switching jobs just two weeks before we thought it would work best if I could have the c-section and be out of the hospital before the new year started and insurances switched.
Knowing this was going to be the day I have the baby we dropped Layla off at my sisters and headed to the appointment thinking and hoping we get sent right over to the hospital to have the baby. We get there and they do all of their normal things. You know the drill, weight, blood pressure, peeing in a cup, we had them do a cervix check as well this time. Everything was good and healthy! Which was us wasn't good news if we wanted to have the baby before 39 weeks. Dr. McCarter came in and said he wish the baby would coraporate so we could do the c-section then. Instead we got sent home and told to try and get labor started even though I was only dilated to a 1 cm.
Tanner and I left feeling a little stressed that we had planned for her to come that day and then we weren't going over to the hospital when we had thought. As we left we headed to the Orem library and started to walk and walk and do up and down stairs. We looked up ways to induce labor and I wasn't willing to try many or like any of them. It was also not get because he told me not to eat anything just in case when we go back to the office that I do end up having a baby. So, passing 4 hours without eating and trying to induce labor was hard for me.
We ended up going home for 2 hours and just relaxing and drinking a lot of Gatorade to see if we can get that to raise my blood pressure for when we go in. Finally we headed to my parents to drop off Layla's suitcase my mom gave me some pineapple juice to drink to see if that would help. She said my dad was on his way home from a short business trip so he would be back for when the baby was born. We headed over to the doctors office and "magically"my blood pressure was high enough that they sent me over to the hospital. Tanner and I both say when they asked how we did it. We say, I drank and walked a lot but mostly we prayed!
We drove around to the other side of the hospital to the Women's Center at Orem Community Hospital. We got all checked. I had preregistered so we did have to do much. They got me in so quickly. I called my mom to head over so she could be there with us. We got check into our room and right away I was getting pills, needles and A LOT of questions so that we could go have the c-section.

I was all hooked up and ready and in the surgical room by five pm. I got the spinal in and they were ready to go. Tanner came in and Adeline was born by 5:28 pm. She seems just as big as Layla to me. I was more with it this time with Adeline but I still was in a little bit of a drug haze. She was 7 lbs. 10 Oz. 20.5 inches long. She was out little blonde baby.
I got stitched back up after seeing her and Tanner went with her to the nursery. They wheeled me to my room and I got to see her again for a second in the hallway through the window.

That evening ended up being pretty tough. I am glad it was just Tanner and my parents there. At one point Tanner had just left to get Layla and I was FREEZING and so nauseous. The nurse was trying to help me by getting blankets and hot chocolate which I ended up throwing up and I did that for much of the night when I tried to move. Luckily I had those trusty blue bags. (SO GROSS!) All because I was trying to stand up 4 hours after surgery, makes me nauseous both times!

In the mix of all of this, finally, Layla got to meet her sister and it was a great moment to have my little family all together.

Adeline was so great as most newborns are during all of this we was being held and fed and doing SO well with it all! From day one we got 3 hour stretches of sleep. One funny instance in the hospital was when I tried to get Tanner to wake up and he was so tired he wouldn't make up. I tried to call his name and shake him and nothing. It was very tiring those first two or three days with running a toddler around, taking care of me and having a new baby around. He hasn't missed waking up a night with me since! Best husband right there!
The next few days were much better and I started to feel better each day, but pain medicine is the worst sometime when they take the pain away but make me SO dizzy and nauseous. Anyways. We loved all the visitors!
Then it was time to go home and we were pretty ready to be on our home and in our own home. The nurse left us feeling prepared and ready. Also, my mom was so great to be there so much to help us, especially Layla! She slept over at my parents house since it was so close but we wanted Layla with us for a lot of the time so we had her and Tanner running back and forth with her.
Tanner was my amazing rock during all of this. Trying to do it all! Be with me and Adeline at the hospital and be with Layla where she was. Plus starting a new job and having to leave after the first few days of working there. Seriously, his bosses are the best and the company for letting him be with me for a whole week!
I know there are so many more details I am missing but I wanted to write this down quickly so I don't forget! We are so lucky and blessed to have this sweet spirit of Adeline's in our home!
After her Bath!
Ready to Head home!
